What Coins We Buy: A Complete List

What Types of Coins We Buy (and Don’t Buy) at Arizona Coin & Bullion

At Arizona Bullion, we specialize in precious metals and numismatic coins, offering fair evaluations and competitive prices for your gold and silver coins. Whether you’re a collector, investor, or simply looking to sell, we’re here to help you navigate the process. Below, we outline the types of coins we purchase and those we generally don’t, so you know exactly what to bring to us.

Coins We Buy

We focus on gold and silver coins, with a particular interest in numismatic coins—those valued for their rarity, historical significance, or collectible appeal. Here’s a closer look at what we’re eager to purchase:

  • Gold and Silver Coins: We buy gold and silver coins in any form, whether they’re bullion coins (valued primarily for their metal content) or numismatic coins with collectible value. Popular examples include American Gold Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, Morgan Silver Dollars, and pre-1933 U.S. gold coins.
  • Numismatic Coins: We purchase both graded and raw (ungraded) numismatic coins. Whether your coins are certified by trusted grading services like PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service), NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation), CAC (Certified Acceptance Corporation), or CACG (Certified Acceptance Coin Grading), or they’re in raw condition, we’ll evaluate them based on their condition, rarity, and market demand.
  • Certified Coins: Coins graded by PCGS, NGC, CAC, or CACG are highly desirable, as their authenticity and condition have been professionally verified. These certifications often enhance a coin’s value, and we’re happy to assess them for purchase.
  • Raw Coins: Don’t have a graded coin? No problem! We also buy ungraded gold and silver coins, carefully evaluating their condition, rarity, and market value to offer you a fair price.

Coins We Don’t Buy

While we’re passionate about gold and silver coins, there are certain types of coins we typically don’t purchase unless they meet specific criteria. Here’s what we generally pass on:

  • Error Coins (Unless Certified): Error coins—those with minting mistakes like double strikes or off-center designs—can be fascinating, but we only buy them if they’re certified by a reputable grading service like PCGS or NGC. Certification ensures the error is authentic and helps establish its value. Without certification, we’re unable to purchase these coins due to the complexity of verifying their authenticity.
  • Modern Quarters (Unless Silver): We do not buy modern U.S. quarters (post-1964) unless they are made of silver. Pre-1965 quarters, which contain 90% silver, are welcome, as their metal content makes them valuable. If you’re unsure whether your quarters are silver, bring them in, and we’ll help you identify them.
  • Wheat Pennies: Wheat pennies (Lincoln cents minted between 1909 and 1958) are common and typically have minimal value, often worth about $0.02 each unless they’re in exceptional condition or feature rare varieties (e.g., 1909-S VDB or 1955 Doubled Die). If you have a large collection of wheat pennies, we can evaluate them, but most are not high-value items.
